In the 21st century, we are not just connected to others in our physical world. We are also connected through social media and other forms of digital communication. Social media has changed the way that churches connect with their community and is quickly becoming a key component of church growth. Churches can use it to keep up with what's happening in the local community, share good news or events within their congregation, mobilize members for ministry opportunities, promote faith-based programs or ministries on a larger scale than they could before--and more! This article will explain how churches can grow by using social media effectively.

Why churches should use social media

Studies show that the majority of people in the Christian faith are highly active on social media. It's no surprise, then, that churches have seen incredible growth by using these tools to expand their reach and connect with more people than ever before.

For most churches, social media is a simple way to spread the gospel message. No matter what age group or demographic you're trying to reach, there's a good chance that they will be on Facebook or Instagram every day (or at least almost every day). When your content is seen by people who are already interested in what you have to say, it's more likely that they will be interested in your message and grow to love Jesus because of you.

Social media can also fill a need for churches. Before the internet came along, your typical church bulletin only included information about worship services and when various programs (such as Bible studies) were meeting throughout the week. Churches could use social media to reach out and help local families, find child care options for working moms or dads, spread the word about community service opportunities, share helpful information about starting a new business in town...the possibilities are endless.

A few key ideas for using social media effectively  Most popular social media platforms don't require you to spend a lot of money on fancy equipment or software. You can create a website, blog and other content for free or nearly free. With that said, there are definitely some tools and apps that will make your social media efforts flow more easily.

Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms, and it continues to grow. 78% of all Americans who use the internet are on Facebook with about 360 million users per month visit Facebook. The majority of this user base consists of U.S. adults--and nearly 80% are on multiple times a day (Pew Research Center). With over 200 million active Facebook users in the United States, it's no wonder that pastors are wanting to get their messages out there.

Using Facebook for church growth can be done by posting a variety of different types of content from inspirational quotes and funny memes, to prayer requests and sharing stories of lives changed by Jesus Christ. You can even create a group to connect with church members and get feedback from them, or to provide information (such as upcoming events).

The Pew Research Center has estimated that there are about 51 million Twitter users in the United States.

How does the church use twitter? They can post content on events that are coming up and fun things they're doing throughout the week, while also sharing Bible verses, prayer requests and more.

Twitter is unique because it's a response-based platform. Because of this, pastors should use this opportunity to provide helpful resources through blog posts or articles. This will give their followers the chance to ask questions and engage in discussions surrounding these topics.

Another way to use Twitter for church growth is by sharing quotes from their sermons, featuring volunteer opportunities and providing announcements related to upcoming events. You can also create polls on Twitter that will encourage followers to share their opinions and engage in conversations within the community.

Instagram is an excellent way for church leaders to get their word out there. With over 1 billion monthly users , Instagram is a visual-centric social media platform that can be used effectively for your church's growth. Instagram features native video capabilities, so churches are able to share videos of sermons and events in action.

Another intriguing way to use Instagram for church growth is through the use of paid advertising. With social media being so accessible, businesses and brands have many different ways to stand out online. Many companies are turning to social media campaigns that focus on visual content because they are more effective than text-based ads (Social Media Today). This can be applied to churches as well, and can lead to even more engaged followers.

Churches have an opportunity to connect with many people by creating a presence on Pinterest. With over 200 million active users , there are plenty of people who will be able to see your posts.

For pastors looking to use Pinterest for church growth, there are many different ways to utilize this platform. You can post critiques of sermons and inspirational quotes as well as provide links to blog posts that discuss specific topics in depth. You can even make a board that features prayer requests and upcoming events for the community to follow along with.
