Reports to: Facilities Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Responsible for the supervision of custodial staff and the care and stewardship of 30+ New Life Covenant buildings and grounds through performing custodial, security and housekeeping activities.
Supervise custodial staff including setting schedules, deleting work assignments.
Train staff. Participate in hiring process. Make recommendations.
Inspect facilities and grounds to ensure clean and safe conditions. Document issues appropriately. Ensure urgent issues are responded to appropriately based on standard operating procedures.
Ensure staff performs duties using established safety procedures and guidelines.
Monitor performance of vendors to ensure work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Address discrepancies directly. Escalate as required.
Perform general security functions such as: locking and unlocking assigned buildings, securing building when facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows and unauthorized occupants. Respond to alarms and provide armored carrier with access to facilities following established procedures.
Monitor safe use of and storage of chemicals, equipment and supplies.
Demonstrate knowledge of and support for the mission, vision, values, policies and procedures of NLC.
Maintain, strip, clean and buff floors.
Perform janitorial upkeep functions such as wash interior and exterior windows, clean blinds, shampoo carpets periodically, and wash walls at designated intervals.
Maintain grounds such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks; cutting grass, bushes, trees; removing weeds, etc.
Organize storage and supply areas.
Serve as a watch against dumping and vandalism. Respond to emergency janitorial situations as the need arises.
Attend meetings as requested and necessary.
Perform other duties assigned.
Represent organization professionally in all interactions with members, visitors and guests.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to climb ladders when required.
Ability to follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment.
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, if necessary.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Ability to make recommendations towards positive changes.
Understand and follow oral and written directions and take initiative when necessary without it.
High School diploma (or GED) required or equivalent work experience.
Valid Illinois driver’s license with ability to maintain insurability.
2-3 years of experience in a janitorial role.
2 years of experience in commercial property maintenance.

Bending, pushing, moving, lifting up to one hundred pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, bending at the waist, pulling, carrying, twisting, turning, climbing ladders, seeing to assure proper and complete cleaning and read labels on products/supplies, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power cleaning equipment.
