Job Title:  Director of Assimilation

Reports To: Discipleship Pastor

FLSA:  Exempt; Full-Time


The Director of Assimilation is responsible for ensuring that the ministry at NLCSE Church is effective in disciple-making and that the congregation is connecting with one another, building community, and experiencing spiritual development through a strong, healthy, and growing Small Groups ministry. This position in collaboration with the Discipleship Pastor is responsible for developing and overseeing a team of volunteers in the areas of assimilation, hospitality, and guest follow-up. This person will help foster a welcoming culture and atmosphere at NLCSE.

  • Develop and maintain a systematic plan for assimilating everyone from guests to regular church attenders into the discipleship pipeline working with the Discipleship Pastor for the purpose of spiritual growth and deeper community.

  • Manage Retention ministries including Welcome Center, Connect Point, New Members/Growth Track, and The Firm.

  • Maintain records of key metrics that pertain to church growth, retention, engagement, etc.

  • Complete New Members Spiritual Gift Survey, Sign-up To Serve, Interview, Orientation, and Assignment of Ministries.

  • Foster a strong, active, growth-focused, and recruiting-focused network of Small Group leaders, members, and individuals interested in becoming part of the church's Small Group ministry.

  • Work with the office staff to create promotional materials and communication methods that ensure everyone at the church is aware of materials available; Spiritual gift survey, sign up to serve, and how to get connected.

  • Identify, develop, and/or select curriculum and other study materials and tools.


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required; Master’s Degree Preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Advanced level of expertise in MS Office products, and MAC Operating Systems.

  • Candidate must live in the Chicagoland Area – Required

  • Strong leader with solid work ethic and ability to lead in a complex ministry setting.

  • High degree of Emotional Intelligence (i.e., self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, and social/relational management).

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity.

  • Strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ensures that all tasks are done correctly, thoroughly, and with precision.

  • Possesses strong technology skills and the ability to learn and work with multiple platforms while considering new digital solutions for ongoing improvement.

  • A Passion for Discipleship and a servant’s heart. Must possess a clear conviction that all God’s people are to make disciples and seek to fulfill the great commission.
