Job Description

Job Summary

The General Ledger Accountant is positioned to work with the Director of Accounting to manage the General Ledger, bank reconciliations, monthly closings, and creation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

 
Monthly Closings
  1. Supervise the closing process by reviewing all closing duties completed by you or delegated to other accounting staff.
  2. Review financial information to assure compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
  3. Reconcile all bank accounts.
  4. Create Monthly Financial Statements by a pre-determined date each month.
  5. Review departmental budgets for accuracy.
 
Budgets
  1. Assist Director of Accounting with annual budget creation.
  2. Review departmental budgets for accuracy.
  3. Make the Director of Accounting aware of any budget issues.

 

Fixed Assets

  1. Ensuring compliance with our Fixed Asset policy.
  2. Helping identify Fixed Asset purchases.
  3. Manage and maintain fixed assets using Fixed Asset Software (FAS):
  4. Placing items into service.
  5. Accurately recording disposals.
  6. Ensuring the FAS reconciles to the Fixed Asset accounts and the Construction in Progress account.
  7. Posting monthly depreciation.
  8. Preparing year-end Fixed Asset reports for our annual internal audit.

 

Annual Internal Audit
  1. General Ledger Accountant is the point person for the internal audit.
  2. Maintain and update the internal audit checklist provided by the auditors.
  3. Delegate checklist duties to accounting staff.
  4. Respond to auditor requests.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

 
  1. Associates Degree in Accounting or two (2) or more years’ experience working in accounting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 
  1. Knowledge of general office methods and procedures (filing, telephone, office equipment).
  2. Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  3. Ability to work with accounting procedures and general business operations.
  4. Strong computer skills for administration, particularly Microsoft Office products.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing.
  6. Discernment and initiative with problem-solving and project coordination, and confidentiality in all matters.
  7. Office organization skills.
  8. Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
