HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

The Woodlands Methodist Church is seeking a highly qualified HR Director with a passion for serving others as part of a church leadership team. The church employs 500+ staff members, including faculty and staff of The Woodlands Methodist School, an accredited pre-K through 8th grade private Christian school. The HR Director will partner with the church leadership team to create work environments and staff culture that enable the church to accomplish its mission: “Win People to Jesus, Disciple Them in Faith, and Help Those in Need.” This position reports to the Executive Director and supervises two HR team members.

JOB DUTIES

  • HR Leadership: Lead and manage the HR team by establishing and executing priorities that enable superior support of church employees
    • Demonstrate a strong leadership presence within HR department and the overall church through effective and visible leadership
    • Supervise HR team which consists of one full-time HR Administrator and one part-time Generalist
    • Work with church leadership team to ensure HR programs and initiatives support, enhance and are in alignment with church vision, goals, and priorities
    • Provide leadership and support to the church employees by promoting the church’s belief system, leading change and establishing any necessary milestones and metrics that measure progress toward The Woodlands Methodist Church objectives
    • Serve as visible advocate of the church’s culture and beliefs
    • Serve in monthly meeting for the Pastor Parish Relations Committee
    • Champion work environment and staff enrichment initiatives to promote employee engagement and job satisfaction
  • HR Functional Knowledge and Expertise: The HR Director is responsible for the oversight of all Human Resource related aspects such as administration, coordination and evaluation of HR policies, practices and procedures
    • Assess, design, implement, administer and maintain HR policies, practices, programs, guidelines, procedures and initiatives that are aligned with church values, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
    • Assist employees with HR related concerns or questions
    • Oversee employment processes, such as recruiting, hiring, onboarding and separations
    • Partner with church leadership to develop training objectives; design and deliver clear and concise training programs that hold the audience’s attention
    • Ensure goals are aligned and achievable; identify additional opportunities and goals as necessary; plan and anticipate church needs
    • Ensure efficient and effective flow of timely information into and out of the HR Department
    • Oversee process, controls, and vendor management for payroll, benefits administration and occupational injury plan
    • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance
    • Coordinate internal audits on required documentation and ensure all HR compliance requirements are met
    • Manage and resolve employee relations issues; where applicable, conduct investigations with integrity while following appropriate steps and protocols
    • Maximize operational excellence and efficiency of the HR department
  • Additional job duties as assigned

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field
  • Graduate degree in Human Resources or HR Certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SPC)
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of HR related experience
  • 3 years of HR Management and/or HR Director experience (preferred)
  • Nonprofit experience (preferred)
  • Broad technical knowledge and extensive experience in HR
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Desire to serve in church setting
  • Personal beliefs are in alignment with the church’s beliefs

  • Full-time on-site; some weekends and evenings required
