Job Description

At Willow Preschool we believe that children learn by doing and exploring the world around them. Our learning programs encourage children to learn at their own pace in settings that are friendly, supportive and FUN! Each learning program is designed to meet children’s spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs.

As the Willow Preschool Director you will lead a team of teaching staff in accordance with all DCFS and ILDPH regulations, ensuring that the team is responding to and meeting the immediate needs of each child in their care. This will be done through providing loving interactions in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment and teaching children through a creative early childhood, developmentally appropriate curriculum. You will ensure that the team is providing the highest quality care and early childhood education that parents can trust.

This is a part time, 25 hours per week, 10 month position.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that the emotional, social, physical, cognitive and spiritual and safety needs of each child are being met through the daily routines and planned curriculum, and are being carried out by teaching teams each day.
  • Our learning centers and circle time center around educational, biblical, and holiday themes to teach children basic literacy, music, math, art, and science.
  • Play-learning is a vital part of our curriculum. Games, stories, creative art experiences, and dramatic play help preschoolers master new skills as they gain self-confidence. We encourage our students to be creative through words, thoughts, movement, and art.
  • Experiences are planned to help children make decisions and problem solve, and special attention is given at this age to developing pre-reading skills so that students can learn in a low-pressure, supportive environment.
  • Develop and supervise team teachers through daily and routine 1:1 feedback, collaborate with Lead teachers to create and conduct bi-annual performance reviews for assistant teachers in the classroom, and organize and conduct bi-monthly team development meetings (which may have to happen outside of the regular work day hours.)
  • Maintain positive relations with staff, parents, DCFS (as needed) and nurse consultant representatives.  Maintain and ensure all records are current for DCFS and ILDH required documents, log books, files, systems, certifications, ensuring attend/watch online WCCC staff meetings and “All In” staff events
  • Coordinate operational tasks to operate Willow Preschool including any marketing, scheduling, , billing, reconciling accounts, communications to ensure program operations
  • Interview, hire and train staff for all positions
  • Prepare and maintain all aspects of annual budget, all curriculum/activities purchasing for program

Creating, managing and growing a Willow Preschool program to full capacity at South Barrington’s campus in order to provide value to the community and generate revenue to cover the cost of the program.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

Skills/Competencies

  • One year of experience in leading operation and regulations of half-day preschool program
  • Leading and motivating others and ability to work well within a team
  • High level of listening/discernment, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • High level of responsibility, decision making and organization, ability to work well under pressure
  • Forward thinking, able to project/plan for “big picture” 

Personal Characteristics

  • Administrative - ability to organize & manage all the details needed for program to run
  • Leadership - ability to manage staff, providing training, vision and feedback
  • Knowledge - experience teaching & leading preschool programs
  • Relational - managing relationships with families, staff and community

Education & Experience

  • Early Childhood Education, Child Development or Special/Elementary Education degree
  • Previous experience as Director or Director Qualified staff in a half-day preschool program
  • Previous experience leading a team of teachers
  • CPR trained & certified
