Job Summary

The Weekday Preschool After Care Teacher is positioned to work closely with the James River Preschool Coordinator in planning and executing the schedule and curriculum for the James River Weekday Preschool program. They will greet and communicate with parents in relation to their child, and assume weekly management of room duties. This position will work the 2019-2020 academic calendar, 2:30-5:45 pm or 3:30-5:45 pm unless otherwise scheduled.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

 
POLICY & PROCEDURES

  1. Complete requested background screening prior to start date (this will be completed with the new employee paperwork upon hire with HR)
  2. Register with Family Care Registry prior to start date
  3. Provide physical exam results and TB test results prior to start date
  4. Complete comprehensive criminal background check (this is separate from the screening completed with the new employee paperwork with HR)
  5. Complete state required training
  6. CPR Certification
  7. Read License Exempt Rule Book and sign required statement
  8. Read the James River Weekday Preschool Teacher Handbook and sign required statement
  9. Abide by no cell phone usage while on duty
  10. Ability to lift, push or pull 25 pounds
  11. Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach
  12. Ability to walk independently up and down a normal flight of 13-15 stairs
  13. Ability to participate in outdoor activities as indicated on the classroom schedule

Job Requirements

 
CLASSROOM DUTIES

  1. Function as an assistant leader
  2. Make sure room is clean, stocked and in order
  3. Assist with oversight of the classroom (keep class on schedule, make sure diapers are changed, kids go to bathroom, etc.)
  4. Assist with implementing James River Weekday Preschool Infant Curriculum in the classroom
  5. Verify parent and child claim tags match when children are picked up
  6. Assist with parents that enter building to drop off or pick up child
  7. Facilitate group activities
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with children and parents
  9. Take attendance of children
  10. Follow the Notification of Parental Responsibility guidelines regarding the student-to-teacher ratio with your class at all times
  11. Follow state guidelines for sanitation requirements in rooms

GENERAL

  1. Red carpet attitude – remember you are here to serve others
  2. Be flexible in every aspect of the job
  3. Greet parents and children at door; learn their names and use them often
  4. No cell phone or other media usage allowed
  5. Friend visits are not acceptable
  6. No food or drinks in the Playlands except bottled water
  7. Always leave a room better than you found it
  8. Be aware of emergency evacuation routes & procedures

SPECIAL EVENTS

All are required to participate in the following activities:

  • Attend scheduled meetings and training days (paid time)

ABSENTEEISM

  • In the event that you are going to be absent please notify the James River Preschool Coordinator immediately.
  • Time off should be requested two weeks’ in advance of absence.

**If absenteeism is affecting your class, a meeting will be scheduled with the Weekday Preschool Director and Coordinator.**
