Job Summary

The Worship Director has the exciting opportunity to lead and influence a world class worship department through coaching, discipleship, recruiting and equipping worship staff and hundreds of Worship Dream Team within all venues of James River Church. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly services, church events, and conference that impact tens of thousands of people around the world. The Worship Department Director will lead the creative process for songwriting and releasing James River Worship albums. Additionally, the Worship Director is responsible for capturing and executing the lead pastors’ vision for James River Church within the worship department. Work is performed under the leadership of the Executive Ministry Pastor.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead worship weekly during Sunday services and Wednesday Prayer Meetings as well as all church events.
  • Oversee the development of worship staff and Dream Team.
  • Oversee and plan worship team rosters for weekly services and events.
  • Provide leadership for songwriting and James River Worship album creation.
  • Oversee the recruitment process of new musicians and worship leaders.
  • Coordinate, plan and host regular Team Nights for worship staff, worship leaders and worship Dream Team.
  • Maintain team unity by displaying a positive attitude at all times while serving as a liaison between the JRC leadership team and worship dream teams.
  • All leadership responsibilities will be directed under the leadership of the Executive Ministry Pastor.
  • Quality control for musicianship, vocals, rehearsals, and worship related events.

Job Requirements

  • Five years of worship leading experience in a church setting overseeing worship teams and volunteers.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule with workdays and time beyond that for special worship events and church events.
  • Well-developed leadership and people skills. Able to build relationships and help resolve conflict quickly and according to scripture.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Exhibits good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while supervising co-workers and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a face-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Exhibit professionalism and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Word of God, especially principles that pertain to worship.
  • Organizational ability to effectively manage a large, well-developed worship department that includes worship staff and worship Dream Team.
  • Skilled as an experienced worship leader.
  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner – orally and written.
  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, coworkers, business professionals, and the general public.

James River Church is Pastor-led and staff driven with board oversight. JRC staff are considered leaders and ministers of the gospel and therefore agree to the following:

    • Daily devotional time with Lord.
    • Daily dependence on the empowerment of the Spirit.
  2. Develop a strong marriage and family life. This includes:
    • Communicating and sharing with your spouse.
    • Spending time together on days off and when extra time is available.
  3. Keep personal finances in order with no delinquencies.
  4. Attend all regularly scheduled services in the church. Special services and functions will be required as deemed necessary by the Lead Pastor.
  5. Maintain a high level of personal integrity, honesty and confidentiality in dealing both with the staff and congregation.
  6. Maintain a Christian outlook and attitude at all times.
  7. Maintain loyalty to the staff and church, actively promoting unity within the church.
