Purpose: The purpose of the director of children’s ministries is to first and foremost bring glory and honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; to lead and coordinate a comprehensive ministry program designed to reach students from birth to completion of 6th grade and their families for Christ and to help them mature in their faith.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Understands the biblical role of parents as the primary spiritual leaders and chief disciple-maker of their children. Therefore, develops and implements strategies which promote and encourage parents to fulfill their God-ordained purpose. This includes, child baptism conferences with parents, child dedication classes, and developing regular communication tools such as a kid’s web page (or kid/parent Facebook page) that contains weekly updates for parents and/or weekly emails to parents.
Plans, coordinates, and collaborates with the senior pastor and the youth pastor to ensure a unified vision and mission that seeks to support and train parents.
Recruits, trains and coordinates workers for Children’s Ministry classes and events (VBS, etc.), worship services and programs. Works cooperatively with all staff and volunteers.
Provides a warm, friendly learning environment for children and families.
Uses appropriate child development knowledge to best meet the needs of Cumberland Homesteads Baptist Church’s children in curriculum selection, child discipline, classroom groupings, etc.
Represents and communicates the needs of the children and the children’s programs to other staff and church leaders as appropriate. Organizes, sets-up and stocks classrooms with necessary supplies.
Maintains, updates, and trains volunteers in our Risk Management Policy and other policies in our Children’s Ministry Manual.
Oversees the drop off and pick up of children during CHBC children’s ministry activities.
Works with Buildings and Grounds for necessary updates and repairs in the children’s ministry areas.
Visits classes for the purpose of evaluation and teacher support in order to address any issues or emergencies that arise.
Assists Senior and Associate Pastors in caring for church families involved in children’s ministry as requested; to consult with parents regarding an issue with their child.
Leads regular children’s ministry team meetings and attends staff meetings.
Participates in the annual budget creation process.
Manages children’s ministry budgets to ensure proper stewardship.
Participates in the life and worship of the Congregation.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor that contribute to the administration and life of the Church.

Personal Qualifications:

Is a born-again believer. Has a personal, active and growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Understands and adheres to the Southern Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Is energetic, warm and able to share the love of Jesus to children and their families.
Is comfortable with caring for church families involved in the children’s ministry.
Is able to balance work, life and family.
Is physically capable of sustained activity.

Professional Qualifications:

Has knowledge of Biblical truth, and experience in teaching the Bible in age-appropriate ways.
Maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
Is a good steward of church resources.
Seeks opportunities to grow professionally.
Actively discovers, encourages, trains and involves others in the children’s ministry.
Has a proven ability to work well with others and motivate them to achieve desired results.

Work Schedule: Full-time

Education: B.A. preferred

Experience: Children ministries/education experience preferred.

Compensation & Expectations:

● Compensation will be set based on experience and educational qualifications. Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Children’s Ministry, or equivalent experience is preferred.

● 40 hrs. per week (this includes Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and additional hours outside the office meeting with children and families where they are).

Working Relationship: The Director of Children’s Ministries works under the general supervision of the Senior Pastor and personnel committee. This individual will work closely with the office staff and various ministry groups of the church. All concerns regarding the position, salary, job expectations, etc. shall be addressed to the Administration Team. The position of the Director of Children’s Ministries requires flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The Director of Children’s Ministries should be in the office a sufficient amount of time for accessibility to members of the congregation and for regular communication with members of the church staff.

Vacation and Other Leave Time: The Director of Children’s Ministries will receive two weeks of paid vacation per year (including three Sundays and two Wednesdays per year) in addition to regular holiday leave. Requests for vacation time should be submitted in writing to the Senior Pastor two weeks prior for approval. The Director of Children’s Ministries will be responsible for securing individuals to carry out necessary duties in their absence. Any other time off for any reason must be approved by the Personnel Committee.
