Job Title: Senior Pastor

Reports to: Church Congregation

Position Status: Full-Time

Purpose:
The pastor is responsible for leading the church to function as a New Testament church. The pastor will lead the congregation, organizations, and church staff to perform their tasks. He is the spiritual leader of the church. He will carry out the following responsibilities and duties, as well as those inherent to that of an ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities:

The pastor shall work with the deacons and church staff to:

1. Lead church in performing its tasks,

2. Lead church to engage in a fellowship of worship, witness, education, ministry, and application,

3. Proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers, and

4. Care for church members and other persons in the community.

The Pastor:

1. Shall be an ex-officio member of all organizations, departments, and committees,

2. May call special meetings of the deacons or any committee should the need arise, and

3. Shall conduct religious services on stated and special occasions and administer the ordinances, and

4. Shall, alongside the chairman of the Deacons, serve as a spokesman for Elon Baptist Church concerning issues and stances approved by the congregation.

The pastor shall have special charge of the pulpit ministry of the church and shall, in cooperation with deacons, provide for pulpit supply when he is absent and shall arrange, with the concurrence of the deacons, for workers to assist in revival meetings and in other special services.

He shall be the administrative head of the church and shall supervise the work of such assistant ministers as the church may employ.

Other Duties May Include (but not limited to):

Perform Wedding Ceremonies and conduct funeral services
Assist in the development of the weekly Worship Service Bulletin
Assist in the development of the monthly Newsletter & Calendar
Teach “Pastor Bible Study” Sunday School Class
Cooperate with and lead the church in cooperating with associational, state and denominational organizations. Such as, but not limited to:
· LBA – (Lynchburg Baptist Association)

· SBCV – (Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia)

· SBC – (Southern Baptist Convention)
