Job Title: Minister of Worship and Music

Responsible to: Senior Pastor

Definition and Summary of Position: Minister of Worship and Music will be responsible for providing leadership and vision in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive, gospel-centered church worship and music ministry and for assisting with pastoral responsibilities in the areas of evangelism and spiritual growth of church members.

As a full-time staff member, the Minister of Worship and Music and his family are expected to attend all worship services including prayer meeting and participate in Sunday School and other functions and ministries of the church.

Principal Duties:

Serve in a pastoral ministry role in caring for both choir and congregation.
Plan, coordinate, and lead or enlist leadership of worship in all services.
Provide visionary leadership for the overall worship and music training for the Sanctuary Choir and choirs and ensembles for all age groups, such as Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, and Senior Adult Choir.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee a comprehensive budget for the worship ministry.
Enlist, hire, recruit, equip, and train all personnel, both volunteer and paid, to accomplish all tasks necessary to have an effective, vibrant worship ministry.
Advise Senior Pastor and other church leadership concerning the needs and requirements of the worship ministry as well as creative consultation for worship services and special events at First
Baptist Church, utilizing church and community resources.
Assist, advise, and counsel individuals and groups for weddings, funerals, and other ministries.
Supervise music staff including instrumentalists, assistants, technician(s), and lay leadership.
Oversee maintenance of the music library and musical instruments.
Utilize resources and personnel to advance music and worship education and training.
Provide supervision for media/worship ministry outreach.
Lead in preparations for all special days and seasons in the life of the church (Christmas, Easter, etc.) in regards to music and worship planning.
Other responsibilities will follow as needed in the life of the church.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:

Must be a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian who demonstrates a genuine, Christlike love for all people.
Must have an understanding of the Bible and the centrality of God’s Word in leading and organizing worship for the church.
Must have a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of worship and music as well as the techniques involved in conducting choirs and leading congregational worship.
Must have a superior knowledge of the church music field, including ancient and modern techniques.
Must demonstrate strong leadership and creativity skills in planning, organizing, and implementing.
Must have a desire and willingness to assist the Senior Pastor and work in collaboration with other church leadership to accomplish the overall goals of First Baptist Church.
Must have the ability to enlist and train workers, both volunteers and paid.
Must have a working knowledge of music theory, instruments, orchestrations, and choral techniques.
Must have an understanding of the role of technology in its application in church music and worship.
Must be able to supervise the worship ministry staff and volunteers.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have a degree, or in the process of completing a degree in music and a demonstrated calling to lead others in the worship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Previous experience in leading music ministries in other churches

Appointment:

Recommended by Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee
Approved by three-fourths vote of Church membership at a business meeting
Reports to Senior Pastor
