Character The candidate should meet the character qualifications in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5. These qualities should be affirmed by others who have been ministering alongside the candidate, specifically elders/pastors from their current church and any other spiritual mentors. Depending on the situation, circumstance, background, and references of the candidate, he could come in and immediately be affirmed as a pastor/elder, but it is more likely that the candidate would serve for 6-12 months in the church body and then be put forward by the elders of the church to become affirmed as an elder here. This can be explained further in the process.

Training Our desire is that the candidate would have a degree in music from a Bible College or University. We prefer a Masters of Divinity, but not required. The candidate should have served on worship teams in the past and have had some experience leading worship.

Job Expectations

Leading the worship for the Sunday morning worship service as well as leading and/or facilitating music for Sunday night/ Wednesday night services if we are having them.
Leading the worship team in weekly practice and training that is needed.
Work with the preaching pastor and other elders to plan the worship service.
Help with the technological aspects of the ministry of the church. This includes sound system, computer, live stream, podcasts, website, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
Help shepherd the flock at FBC with the other elders and defend against false doctrine.
Be a part of the elders’ meetings once a week.
Be a part of the rotation of teaching classes/Bible studies and preaching.

Current status We have been blessed with faithful and talented lay worship leaders throughout the life of the church. Our current worship leaders do a good job pointing us to Christ. We have many members with musical talents, but need someone to train and lead those the Lord has blessed our congregation with. Our aim is to have a blended worship style. We generally sing two traditional hymns with a piano, two songs with a guitar lead, and one song a cappella or with the guitar as a response song after we take the Lord’s Supper. We have Scripture readings in between songs and have responsive readings in service regularly. We hope the candidate can bring new ideas to our worship. Music Choice – We generally sing hymns from the Baptist Hymnal and selections of more modern worship hymns. We hope to incorporate singing Psalms in the service soon. Sometimes, we sing the Doxology at the end of the service. We do not and will not sing any songs connected to Hillsong, Elevation Worship, Bethel Worship, and others ministries similar to these. Currently, our team has been learning songs by Sovereign Grace. We desire for this to continue with the addition of other solid songs/artists such as Shane and Shane, CityAlight, the Getty’s, and others. We want our worship team to choose not just good songs, but the best songs that honor God and teach deep truths about Him. We affirm the Regulative Principle for worship and strive to make everything Christ-centered and saturated with the Word of God. We currently aim for songs that are in keys that the congregation can sing easily and are simple to sing. We are learning and growing weekly in best practices for worship, but need someone to come and help lead us who is gifted and has spent time being trained and in study.
