The Minister to Children will be committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to a ministry with young people, birth to 6th grade, and their families. The Minister to Children shall be first and foremost a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and second a specialist in the area of Children’s Ministry. This individual should possess the administrative skills necessary to perform ministry and the associated details. Interpersonal, relational skills for working with children and adults within the congregation are prerequisite.

Job descriptions are but starting points for ministering and serving our Lord. This is especially true of Ministers to Children. With that in mind, the duties of the Minister to Children include but are not limited to:

GENERAL

1) Live an exemplary Christian life
-maintain an active, daily, on-going devotional life (Bible study, prayer, inspirational reading…)
-tithe one-tenth of your gross income as a minimum offering to the Lord

2) Work with the Pastor and other church staff to provide for the pastoral needs of the congregation.
-make pastoral visits as needed or assigned
-be available to be on the worship platform when requested by the Pastor and take part in worship leadership
-other duties as assigned by the Pastor

3) Work with the Pastor and other church staff and leaders as an organized team member
-work with and fully support the work of the Pastor and other staff members
-communicate plans and activities to staff and Children’s ministry team
-assist in the coordination and unification of the ministries and calendar of the church to avoid conflict, duplication, and overlapping
-help in the management and be a good steward of church facilities
-work with and support association and state leaders in activities of mutual interest

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

1) Establish personal relationships with children and their families through church attendance and leadership, outreach, and other contact.
-visit and spend time with children and their parents in their homes and other environments where they gather
-meet with, work with, and keep parents informed about children’s ministry
-develop and reach out to prospects

2) Provide for spiritual growth of young people:
-lead them to know Jesus as their personal savior
-lead an organized Wednesday night children’s program
-be responsible for an organized Sunday night children’s program
-be responsible for children’s Sunday School
-promote the total program of the Church
-locate and use resources to meet the needs of children, birth to 6th grade, in such areas as spiritual growth, Bible study…

3) Work with the parents and other adult leaders to plan and program events and activities providing opportunities for children to fellowship, grow, and/or minister:
-research and schedule as needed special events such as camps, Vacation Bible School, retreats, trips…
-research and schedule at least one day activity and/or fellowship per quarter
-offer opportunities to involve children in missions, community service…
-develop effective publicity for children’s ministry

4) Supervise and maintain a working relationship with the Nursery Director and Staff.

5) Recruiting, training, enlisting, encouraging and supporting lay people in the various volunteer ministries of working with children in the congregation.

6) Be involved in continuing education to stay informed of new and effective ways to minister.
