Basic Functions: Direct and oversee the youth ministry by educating, ministering to and involving teens in the ministry of the church, and following up with teen guests; oversee the recreation ministry of the church, providing opportunity for everyone to participate in recreational activities; and supervise specified staff.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

Student Ministry

1. Give direction to and oversee the ministry to students in grades 6 through 12.

Identify the needs and interests of teens within the church and community
Plan and develop programs for the youth ministry that enhance the church’s ministry and vision
Plan, promote, and direct youth emphasis such as extended youth events (Disciple Now), retreats, banquets, and weekday ministry activities
Evaluate existing programs to determine effectiveness
Identify and provide ministry opportunities for teens
Develop a personal relationship with all youth

2. Enlist, train and supervise all volunteers working with the youth

Provide training for youth leaders as needed
Meet regularly with youth ministry leaders to pray and to discuss upcoming events, challenges, solutions and praises
Ensure background checks are processed on all youth workers
Investigate any complaints regarding youth ministry workers. Discuss complaints/problems with workers when warranted. Document and report serious matters to the Associate Pastor of Administration & Discipleship and proper authorities.
Plan and coordinate discipleship activities and events that involve youth in Bible study and Christian growth
Work with the Associate Pastor of Administration & Discipleship to:
Organize staff, supervise, and evaluate ongoing Bible study opportunities for the youth to include Sunday School, Sunday evening Christian growth, and Wednesday evening youth Bible study
Provide approved curriculum
Coordinate and participate in the church’s outreach and inreach ministry as it pertains to and involves youth through personal visits, phone contacts, electronic media, and letters

3. Visit teens who are hospitalized

4. Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth and their families on an individual basis

5. Pray for youth, their families and youth ministry workers

6. Actively support the youth in their public school and community activities

7. Work with the Associate Pastor of Administration & Discipleship and related committees to develop the youth ministry budget and track expenditure throughout the year
