Discipleship Pastor, Green Street Baptist

Church Status: Full-Time

Work Days/Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week. Pastoral Staff’s normal workweek is Sunday through Thursday. However, this position is expected to attend all church-wide activities and be available to the congregation as needed. Will serve in an on-call capacity as scheduled by the Senior Pastor.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Discipleship Pastor will be responsible for leading, directing, shepherding, and equipping all Life Groups by working to help create a discipleship model that reproduces itself. He will provide leadership and oversight to our age-graded ministries, which includes providing direct supervision to fulltime employees (Preschool Director, Children’s Ministry Director, Student Pastor) as well as several part-time employees.

QUALIFICATIONS.

Character:

A mature follower of Jesus Christ who actively demonstrates a passionate call to discipleship within ministry.
Consistently meets and strives to maintain the character qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 “…above reproach, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach…filled with gentleness.”
Understand and embrace Green Street’s mission and vision for ministry as well as the doctrinal position of the church as stated in the SBC Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
Possess an inspirational and influential leadership style that champions the Gospel and the Great Commission with boldness, humility, and creativity.

Competency—Skills:

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Bible with an emphasis on teaching the Word of God with accuracy, clarity, and faithfulness.
Display giftedness in key areas of shepherding and leadership that helps people discover their God-given spiritual gifts
Demonstrate successful experience in recruiting, training, and leading effective discipleship and ministry teams.
Demonstrate giftedness in both leadership and administration.
Self-motivated and takes the initiative in problem-solving, accomplishing tasks, and building relationships in order to develop ministry leaders.
Life-long learner who continues seeking ways to grow professionally and personally in order to increase and improve ministry effectiveness.
Navigate professionally and compassionately between the mission of the church and the needs and concerns of individual members and attendees.

Job Responsibilities:

Support the Senior Pastor in implementing the vision and leading the direction of the church while shepherding and managing the staff under his supervision.
Supervise and provide leadership, oversight, and guidance to Life Groups, weekly Bible Studies, to ensure that intentional discipleship is advanced in every ministry throughout the church by the equipping of its members and attendees.
Build, develop, and sustain a multiplying discipleship culture throughout the church body.
Lead and develop staff and volunteer leaders for Life Groups, men’s and women’s small groups, young adults, and other age-graded ministry areas. Guard the doctrine of what is taught through Life Groups by overseeing and monitoring the content, scope, and sequence of what is taught in all groups.
Provide oversight and guidance to the Preschool Director, Children’s Ministry Director, and Student Pastor,
Collaborate with the entire pastoral Ministry Team to effectively lead Green Street to be a church that glorifies God by making disciples of all nations.
Develop and oversee evangelistic efforts as well as Starting Point new member classes as people come to faith in Christ, are baptized, and join the church.
Perform other pastoral duties such as hospital visitation, weddings, and funerals. Serve on the “Pastor on Call” rotation and be a shepherd to people.
Ability to fill the pulpit when asked by the Senior Pastor.
Ensure that a culture of intentional welcoming and the assimilation of new guests occurs at every worship service —from the parking lot to the pew. Ensure the accuracy and updating of the databases, class rosters, and all communications related to Life Group ministry.
Establish an annual budget with visionary expectations and financial responsibility for the equipping, leadership development, training, support, and appreciation of volunteers and volunteer leaders.
Establish and maintain healthy team relationships. Effectively steward resources to maximize ministry impact while minimizing expenses. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Education/Experience: Seminary degree or equivalent preferred with minimum of 5 years ministry experience.

Additional Skills: Ability to effectively supervise others and understand, motivate, and support staff, volunteers, and volunteer leaders. Exceptional leadership, managerial, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines. Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
