POSITION – CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP AND PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR

Highland’s Baptist Church (HBC) is also a growing congregation with multiple families and children. HBC has also been blessed with a Learning Center that provides daycare, preschool, and aftercare services to the Ocala community. The Director of Children position is a unique opportunity to develop and establish a Children’s Ministry at the church, while also overseeing the management of the 50+ year established Learning Center. This position is multi-faceted and will work to achieve a Christ-centered partnership between both the Children’s Ministry and Learning Center (70% Learning Center; 30% Children’s Discipleship).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Administrative

Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Learning Center with Assistant Director
Oversight for strategy, developing, executing and evaluating Children’s Ministry program for ages birth – 5th grade
Maintain a Christian environment for students, staff, families and volunteers
Maintain a visible presence throughout the facility and church, build relationships with students, staff, families and volunteers
Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines, and laws
Maintain complete student files and ensure confidentiality of all student records
Maintain paperwork on school operations, incident reports and other documentation. Prepare reports as required by law and HBC policy
Ensure that staff are following policies and procedures
Oversee all communication of HBC Children’s Ministry and Learning Center
Attend church staff meetings and communicate with staff regarding activities, and events. Coordinate facility use with church for regular and special events
Attend weekly church worship services

Staff Development/ Curriculum

Stay current in new developments related to early childhood education and distributes applicable information to staff
Oversee hiring and training of teachers and Learning Center staff. Observe and monitor classroom instruction, providing feedback and guidance when needed.
Complete an annual evaluation of each staff member
Maintain scope and sequence (curriculum); ensure curriculum is implemented throughout program and updated when needed
Assist teachers in identifying special needs of individual children and performs formal/informal observations as needed. Suggest and help implement appropriate interventions with students if needed
In conjunction with staff members, arrange and oversee special events and resource personnel for Learning Center and Children’s Ministry enrichment programs
Plan and lead regular staff meetings and facilitate communication among staff
Create substitute teacher list and assist with arranging for teacher coverage when required. Step into teacher role when needed
Evaluate programs through family surveys at least once per school year, using results to make necessary improvements

Facility/Equipment/Safety

Purchase and maintain all supplies and equipment for the Learning Center and Children’s Ministry Maintain adequate quantities of consumable items throughout the year
Conduct systematic and periodic safety and cleanliness inspections of all space, equipment, and personnel
Enforce safety/security standards for students, staff, families and visitors, including regular inspection of all spaces and equipment. Schedule annual playground, fire, inspection and file report per HBC policy
Coordinate any needed repairs/maintenance/updates of indoor and outdoor spaces
Maintain and update emergency evacuation procedures

Financial

Create, plan and implement annual Learning Center and Children’s Ministry budgets and ensure expenses stay within budgeted amounts
Recommend Learning Center tuition and other fees. Prepare and distribute weekly/monthly tuition invoices for families
Present annual Learning Center and Children’s Ministry budgets to HBC for final approval

Student Development/Family Relations

Provide a warm nurturing, educational and Christ-centered environment in which students, families, staff and volunteers cooperate in a positive learning experience
Ensure that children with special needs, including medical needs, have appropriate accommodations which are known to staff and volunteers
Facilitate, recruit and encourage Learning Center and Children’s Ministry volunteers
Document and report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect per law and HBC policy

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A commitment to the Christian faith, with a love of Christ and a desire to share that love with children and their families
Reflect a character consistent with one who has been called out for vocational ministry, both within the church and the community
Be someone above reproach and complementary to the vision and mission of the church
Must be in full agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as produced by the S.B.C.
Church membership within 90 days of beginning employment.
Extensive knowledge of early childhood development principles and developmentally appropriate educational practices
Classroom teaching experience
Administrative experience is preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children
Ability to create a positive, safe, nurturing and Christ-centered environment for children
Ability to collaborate and communicate with HBC ministry staff, teachers, support staff, parents, and students in a positive and constructive way
Ability to plan, manage, and evaluate curriculum and staff
Bachelor’s degree in a child-related field. A combination of experience and education will be considered
Experience with managing a budget effectively
Ability to pass an extensive background check
