Pastor Job Description

The church is seeking a strong Pastor, a vibrant leader who will train and work with the deacons, staff, committees, and congregation to support God’s mission for us in furthering His kingdom.

· Licensed and ordained as a minister of the Gospel

· In the Southern Baptist Church, the focus is on the New Testament, and pastors are expected to adhere to its teachings in both their personal lives and their professional ministries. Outside of the church, the pastor serves as the church’s representative and represents the church at civic functions.

· Adherence to the current Baptist Faith and Message.

· Minister to the church community by planning weekly biblical sermons: Sunday services and Wednesday prayer meeting. The Pastor will oversee the spiritual growth of the congregation and conduct baptisms

· The pastor’s main responsibilities include proclaiming God’s Word, ministering to spiritual needs, and providing Biblical leadership for the church. A primary area of focus involves:

o ministering to the community by assisting the congregation in visiting church members

o shut-ins

o nursing home

o hospital

o comforts bereaved families in their time of grieving

o calling on those in our community who may not have a church home

· Ensure that the church is adhering to the laws set by the Bible and the Southern Baptist Convention. This includes dealing with conflicts within the church and any discipline issues that may arise.

· Oversees the compilation of a church budget and adherence to that budget.

· The pastor acts as a manager to the paid church staff.

· Supervises the coordination of church ministries.

· Work with the deacons and committees to determine the direction of the church. This can include shaping the church’s mission and its messaging, making determinations about programs, events, community support initiatives, missions, expansion efforts and overall church operations. He will be involved in hiring staff, negotiating church business deals and managing investments.

· Serves as a member of every committee of the church.

· Participates in the planning of and attending extra activities that the church family provides for the community:

o School backpack

o Trunk or Treat

o Christmas Shoebox ministry

o VBS

o All other church and community service projects that come up

o Baby dedications

o Officiate weddings and funerals

· As the Spiritual advisor he provides confidential pre-marital counseling, marriage counseling, and any other counseling a church member needs which will include referring to another counselor if needed.

Basic Personal Responsibilities:

· Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer, and meditation.

· Maintain proper priorities in your home and be the spiritual leader to your wife and children (if married/father).

· Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.

· Financially support the work of ministry at our church by faithfully giving/tithing.
