JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: SENIOR PASTOR

GOALS OF THE SENIOR PASTOR MINISTRY 1. Lead the church family in the communication of God’s Word. 2. Serve as the chief under-shepherd and overseer of this local church. 3. Further a strong foundation in the Christian faith and in Southern Baptist doctrine. 4. Minister to the spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

A Master of Divinity Degree from an accredited Seminary and/or equivalent educational or training experiences and/or minimum of 5 years consecutive pastoral ministry which would qualify a person to pastor and administer a Southern Baptist church.

DUTIES IN THE PASTORAL MINISTRY 1. Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry. 2. Oversee pastoral staff and non-ministerial staff as appropriate. Provide direction for the church program. 3. Provide leadership and vision for the church. Direct plans for ministry and church growth. 4. Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example. 5. Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study. 6. Facilitate the contact/visitation of hospitalized or grieving church members. 7. Officiate at weddings and funerals. 8. Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity with the church. 9. Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, revival or other special services, visitation and other outreach efforts. 10. To manage his money with integrity so as not to bring reproach upon the church. 11. Work with various standing and special committees in accomplishing their respective duties. 12. The pastor, when possible, shall moderate all business meetings of the church. 13. Lead in observance of the ordinances of the church. 14. Cooperate with local, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in denominational and civic matters.

MINISTER QUALIFICATIONS & ACCOUNTABILITY 1. Spiritually – Must maintain personal devotions and be a personal soul-winner. Must profess a vocational calling to ministry. 2. Ethically – Maintain a high moral and ethical lifestyle. Is expected to maintain integrity beyond reproach. Should have a safe driving record and be insurable on church policies. 3. Financially – Minister is expected to tithe, keep their personal financial obligations current, and otherwise show financial responsibility. 4. Organizationally – Maintain open communications in planning and directing through appropriate committee structures, deacon body, church council, and staff meetings. 5. Educationally – Candidates will be evaluated on the entirety of their qualifications. The minister is expected to improve personal skills and abilities through continued training. 6. Technology – Maintain accountability with the use of the church internet and any device attached to the church’s internal network.

HOURS 1. The position will be considered full-time or bi-vocational. 2. Hours worked shall vary from week to week according to pastoral/church activities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Converted and called to the pastoral ministry.
Licensed and ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Southern Baptist Churches.
Spiritual and personal integrity and maturity.
Ability and willingness to share Christ and disciple others.
Positive human relations skills.
Obvious motivational skills.
Ability to communicate well through a pulpit ministry.
Ability to empathize with the deep concerns of the congregation.
