The Calling
The Associate Pastor of Discipleship will be responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing the process and efforts of First Baptist Martin to reach people with the Gospel, assimilate them into the church, and help them to become maturing disciples of Jesus Christ. The preferred candidate must meet the qualifications of a church leader as laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. The preferred candidate must also be in full agreement with the statement of faith (The Baptist Faith and Message, 2000).

The Church
At FBC Martin, we have one purpose: To make Christ known among the nations. This is the reason for our existence. This is the purpose for our ministry. Every program and event at FBC Martin has this as its goal. As we experience the joy of God’s presence in our own lives, we want to share that joy with the rest of the world. It’s a journey that begins here in Martin and carries us throughout the world.

It is our desire at FBC Martin, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to make Christ known. We want to see people from every tribe, nation, and tongue worship Him. It is our responsibility as genuine believers. It’s a task that is accomplished through prayer and missional living. Simply put, we’re everyday people reaching people every day with the message of the cross. We are living the Great Commandment so that we may fulfill the Great Commission…until the whole world hears!

The Community
Located approximately 125 miles northeast of Memphis and 150 miles northwest of Nashville, the City of Martin features a revitalized historic downtown business district that includes restaurants, shopping and brand new state-of-the-art public library. Downtown Martin is the site of the annual Tennessee Soybean Festival, which attracts top entertainment and celebrates the area’s rich agricultural heritage. Martin is also home to the University of Tennessee at Martin, which offers an active Town & Gown experience that fosters positive working relationships between the city and the university, bringing cultural activities, fine arts, academic speakers, and Division I athletics to the area.
