Summary of Position

The Executive Pastor serves as the chief administrative and operating officer of the church. He reports directly to the Lead Pastor and is responsible for the overall leadership and day to day operations of the church staff and of all its ministries.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Pastor’s major areas of responsibility fall into the following four major categories: Staff, Congregational Care, Vision & Strategy, and Operations.

Staff:

· Leads the staff to strategically develop, support, and execute the processes vital to the mission and vision of Village Baptist Church.

· Directly supervises the activities and performance of the ministerial staff members and other church management personnel who report to him.

· Works closely with the Lead Pastor and Personnel team to build and cultivate a healthy staff by:

o Designing organizational structures and staffing models that align the staff with the mission, vision, and strategy of VBC.

o Coaching, directing, training, and evaluating the performance of personnel.

o Leading the recruiting and onboarding processes for key personnel.

o Guiding staff through strategic planning and goal setting.

o Encouraging a collaborative team-oriented culture.

o Prioritizing the development of emotional and spiritual health on the team.

o Focusing on development and continued growth in core job competencies.

o Creating opportunities for staff which encourage, celebrate, educate, and inspire.

o Leading staff worship and meetings.

o Holding staff accountable for meeting objectives and acting when disciplinary action is required.

Congregational Care:

Counsels, teaches, preaches, disciples, administers ordinances, and leads the congregation as required under the leadership of the Lead Pastor.
Works with the Lead Pastor to help lead the Deacon Ministry.
Shepherds the VBC community paying particular attention to the lay leadership of the church.

Vision & Strategy:

Translates the mission and vision of the church into actionable strategies and plans.
Collaborates with the Lead Pastor and lay leadership to cultivate the church’s mission, vision, and direction.
Facilitates an annual process of strategic planning that includes evaluation of current ministries, budget creation, and staffing resources.
Ensures alignment of resources with the overall mission, vision, values, objectives, and goals of the church.

Operations:

Works closely with the CFO for the general supervision of the matters, properties, and operations of the church.
Responsible for the management and operational control of the day-to-day administration of the church.
Serves as a permanent standing member of the Village Christian Academy school committee.

Education AND EXPERIENCE Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Seminary degree preferred.
Minimum of five years leadership and executive management, preferably within a large church.

Knowledge or Skill Requirements

This position requires a mature Christian who has a diverse skill set to perform each essential duty and responsibility. This includes but is not limited to, being able to identify and work closely with the Lead Pastor and a diverse congregation. This person must have significant ability to solve problems objectively, love people unconditionally, influence and lead others, and handle difficult situations with confidentiality and the highest degree of integrity.
