About Woodrun Baptist Church

Mission: To lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus by creating an environment that encourages and equips people to pursue intimacy with God, community with one another and be a positive influence to our neighbors.

Woodrun Baptist was formed as a Mission in a hotel in Chaires, Florida on Easter Sunday in 1985 by Brother Charles Houston and his wife Nell. One day Brother Houston was riding in the area and was led by the Holy Spirit to stop and pray. During that prayer, he felt led to start a church in the area. Later the property where we are currently located was purchased and a mobile home set up for services. The first Woodrun Baptist Church service was May 4, 1986 and now we have a beautiful church building.

In 2019, prior to the pandemic, Woodrun averaged 75-100 in Sunday morning services. We were growing with a Vision 2020 plan in place for the New Year. Then the pandemic hit. As for many churches our attendance dropped. But for us, it was more. In November 2020 our Pastor contracted the virus and after weeks in ICU, passed away December 28, 2020. Our church was in shock and hurting. Currently our church averages 40-50 in Sunday morning services and is slowly restarting other programs. In faith, we are moving forward.

Woodrun Baptist Church is located on the Southeast side of Tallahassee and sits on the edge of a large neighborhood. Across the street on 100 acres of land, Apalachee Regional Park is being built which will have many recreational activities to draw people to the area. Even more exciting is the Southeast side of Tallahassee is GROWING. The harvest and opportunity for growth is plentiful.

Woodrun is in search of a visionary leader who is passionate about creating a church for unchurched people. Leadership, teaching and people skills are very important traits for our next pastor.

Job Description

· Set as guideline of personal behavior the standard required in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and 1 Peter 5:1-4.

· Provide administrative leadership for the total church program.

· Maintain a regular program of Bible study to enable himself to plan and conduct meaningful worship services.

· Prepare for and conduct worship services; lead in the observance of the Lords Supper; and, lead the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community.

· Visit members and prospects and lead the membership in a visitation program.

· Supervise other members of the church staff according to staff organization.

· Conduct premarital, vocational, family, bereavement, counseling sessions, etc., as needed. Advise other professional help when necessary.

· Perform wedding ceremonies and conduct funeral services.

· Work with Deacons, church officers, and committees in performing assigned responsibilities. Be available for and lead in training as needed.

· Cooperate with and lead the church in cooperating with associational, state, and denominational leaders. Keep the church informed of developments within denominations.

· Serve as a representative of the church in civic matters.

· Serve as the leader in seeking to minister to the unsaved; lead the membership in soul-winning training.

· Plan and promote periods of evangelistic emphasis for the unsaved and renewal for the Christians.

· Serve as chairman of the Church Leadership Team (Church Council) in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the total church program.

· Act as moderator for all church business meetings.
